A documentary that turns program impact into proof
Mind, Body & Soul, Inc. hired Dante Bland, LLC to film and produce a documentary for its African-Brazilian Drumming Club. The program is part of a Strategic Investment Grant from the Arts & Science Council. The film gives the organization real evidence of its impact for grant reporting, fundraising, and program growth.
The Drumming Club ran in partnership with ourBRIDGE for KIDS, which serves newly arrived immigrant and refugee children. Middle-school students learned Afro-Brazilian drumming and dance from Bloco Afro Ayédùn, led by Tamara Williams and Luciano Xavier, with instruction by Icaro da Silva. The work built toward a final performance at the Mint Museum.
Dante handled every phase of the film. Pre-production covered the shot list, interview questions, release forms, and location scouting. Production captured youth and instructor interviews, b-roll of the sessions, ambient sound, and the Mint Museum performance. Post-production brought it together with editing, graphics, titling, program music, and two revision rounds, delivered as an HD master.
The story follows the children through their own arc. They arrive nervous. They get support and encouragement. They perform. They leave proud. That emotional progression is the evidence the organization needs to show funders the program works. The finished film runs about 30 minutes and now supports the nonprofit's grant reporting and fundraising.
